CPU Licensing and Sockets

Hi all,

Apologies if this question has been asked, but searching so far hasn't answered it.

If I have a vSphere Standard license for 2 physical CPU's, does that mean I shouldn't exceed 2 CPU sockets in each VM, or is that setting irrelevant?
